Malaria
Malaria is a serious illness, which can have serious complications and can also be fatal. It is prevalent in many parts of the world which are visited by travellers and can be worse at certain times of the year. If you know you will be visiting an area where Malaria is endemic please inform the Practice Nurse.
Some travellers fail to heed advice or to take prescribed or advised medication / prophylaxis on their RETURN from a Malaria endemic area which has resulted in a significant number of serious cases in the Untied Kingdom. We strongly advise our patients to exercies the utmost precautions to avoid catching this illness, before during and after their trips to Malaria endemic areas, including the use of creams, sprays , nets and taking precautions NOT to be bitten by covering up when mosquitos are present.
Initial Travel Appointment
Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. Some immunisations are provided free on the NHS and others are not, we will always inform you of this when you see the nurse.
